Certification In Digital Photography

 

Introduction

The Certification in Digital Photography course is an intensive training programme which was designed to equip students with no prior photographic training with technical knowledge and practical experience in digital photography. After fundamental training has been completed, students progressively deal with more challenging and complex photographic assignments, until the Applied Digital Photography subject where diverse photographic genres are explored from photojournalism to wedding and product photography. Students who successfully complete the course can enter the market as freelance photographers.

DURATION
• 40 sessions of +-2 hours per session

ASSESSMENT
• To ensure that you master the course material, you will be required to complete various assignments.
• Assignments are marked and returned to students with feedback.
• Assignments are evaluated and the JAA Certificate in Digital Photography is awarded if a pass mark of 75% average is achieved.
• Students who maintain a minimum pass mark of 75% in each of the course modules is awarded the JAA Certificate of Merit in Digital Photography.
• Students who maintain a minimum pass mark of 75% in each of the course modules, and where the total average is 95% and above, is awarded the JAA Certificate of Merit in Digital Photography with Distinction.

After successful completion of the course, a student is expected to be able to:
• operate as a freelance photographer;
• carry out a wide range of photographic work using a Digital SLR camera, both in studio and on location;
• work with photographic equipment including an external flash, studio lights and a light meter;
• interpret a photographic brief;
• draft quotations for photographic work;
• present a portfolio of work of the highest standard for stills photography.

COURSE FEE - FULL TIME COURSE
• The course fee per person is R 29 750 (R8000 deposit + 4 x R5438 installments).
• Or, if you wish to settle the full course fee before commencement via EFT or CASH payment, a 20% discount applies, which reduces the course fee to R 23 800.

COURSE FEE - PART TIME COURSE
• The course fee per person is R 35 000 (R 10 000 deposit + 6 x R4167 installments).
• Or, if you wish to settle the full course fee before commencement via EFT or CASH payment, a 20% discount applies, which reduces the course fee to R 28 000.

PHOTOGRAPHY EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
• No photography experience is required.
• Students will be required to present images which have been edited using Adobe software during most of the presentation sessions, therefore students are required to either know how to use Photoshop CC software, or be enrolled for the Certification in Photo & Video Editing course, or be enrolled on the Photoshop CC and Lightroom short courses.
• The course is presented in English and students are required to have a good command of the language to engage in classes.
• Basic computer literacy is required.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR THE COURSE
• Any brand of Digital SLR camera with an 18-55mm lens as a minimum requirement.
• An additional lens to cover a focal range of 55-200mm will be an advantage.
• A tripod.
• An external flash.
• A studio lighting kit (a 3 head kit with various diffusion options will be ideal), flash meter and grey card.
• A notebook computer to use in class (a minimum of 4GB Ram, 1GB graphics card, 64-bit operating system).

Learn to do image editing including enhancing, retouching, deep-etching and much more with the industry standard Adobe Photoshop CC software.
